Mastercard Foundation partnered with Makerere University to offer 1000 Scholarships to academically
talented but financially constrained youth from Africa to pursue their University Education at
Makerere University. The Scholarships have been allocated to 70% Young Women and 30% Young Men.
There is further categorisation including:
- Undergraduate Programmes: 95%
- Refugees and Internally Displaced youth: 25%
- Young People with Disabilities: 10%
- International students: 10%
- Students transitioning from schools located in highly ranked poor sub-regions: 20%
- Refugee hosting communities and minority tribes: 10%
- Other vulnerable youth, including the Urban poor: 20%
- Master's Programmes: 5%
Note: To be eligible, one MUST successfully apply for admission to Makerere University Main Campus under the Private Sponsorship Scheme.
The Scholar receives a comprehensive financial package for Tuition, Accommodation, Meals,
Scholastic Materials and Incidentals. Other benefits include Health Insurance and a Laptop.
This financial support allows Scholars to focus entirely on their academic and personal
growth, fostering a stress-free learning environment.

Generally, the Program does not cover Application Fees for Admission to Makerere University. The Program considers only those applicants who have successfully been admitted to Makerere University. However under unique circumstances, e.g. Female Refugees, support may be extended
