Justine J. Namaalwa (Assoc. Professor)
Portfolio: Program Director
Her Vision: Contribute to creating a NorthStar-led Society by empowering the Youth to live Meaningful lives and transform society.
Justine is a Female Ugandan trained at PhD level in Forest Economics (Norwegian University of Life Sciences);. She is employed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Environment Management, School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University-Uganda.
Regarding administrative and management responsibilities, Justine is the head of the Department of Environmental Management at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Makerere University. She is also the Director of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. Justine has undergone several leadership trainings to enhance her leadership capacity, including Purpose-driven Leadership; The Womens Leadership Academy; The Collegiate Mental Health Ally Certificate Program, and The Principles and Practices of Safeguarding.
As the Director of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, Justine is responsible for the general oversight and public relations with actively engaged in different stakeholders. She engages in different working groups focusing on Inclusivity for Persons Living with Disabilities and Refugees/Displaced Youth, Transformative Leadership Post-University Transition, and Innovations and Entrepreneurship.

Jolly Okumu is the Program Operations Lead for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, where she oversees the access, thrive, and operations portfolios of the Scholars Program. With over 15 years of experience in managing scholarship programs and student support services. Jolly has established herself as a seasoned professional dedicated to advancing student development, inclusivity, and well-being.
As a gender specialist, counselor, and mentor, Jolly combines her expertise in gender studies and counseling psychology to create an environment that supports the holistic growth of students. Her qualifications include a Master of Arts in Gender Studies and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.
Jolly is responsible for a wide range of critical tasks, including coordinating recruitment of Scholars on the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, human resource management, ensuring provision of inclusive support services, managing partnerships and collaborations, overseeing the development of work plans, budgets and ensuring accurate program reporting.

John Osuna is a Program Transition Lead at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. His role is to lead the implementation of agency, voice and transition portfolio of the Scholars Program. John is a management practitioner with 18 years' experience in administration and management in higher education specifically on student development and scholarship management. He holds a Master's in Public Administration and Management, a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Studies from Makerere University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Uganda Management Institute. Other professional trainings and certifications include a certificate in Educational Advancement and Resource Mobilization from Rhodes University, sponsored by Inyathelo-The South African Institute for Advancement, short training on student development and the management of summer schools at the University of Edinburgh.
As the Transition Lead, he is responsible for implementing the Leadership and Career Development Training for Scholars, coordinating the entrepreneurship training, enterprise and business development engagements of Scholars in liaision with partners, coordinating the Scholars Transition Pathways and advancing strategic partnerships that facilitate transition of Scholars to the world of work.

Phillip Mawejje is a Finance lead of the Scholars Program at Makerere University. He holds a Master's Degree in Business administration - Makerere University, He is a full member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA), and also holds a Certificate in Administrative law -from School of law Makerere University.
As Finance Lead, he is responsible for the financial management of the Program in accordance with Makerere University Financial manuals/guidelines and the financial regulations of Mastercard Foundation

Daniel Otim
Portfolio: Principal Monitoring & Evaluation Officer
Daniel Otim is a MEAL professional with 15 years of hands-on experience and leadership in project monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL). He has supported in diverse sectors, including education, health, agriculture, and human rights. Holding a Master of Business Administration (Makerere University), Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring & Evaluation (Uganda Management Institute), and a Bachelor of Statistics (Makerere University), with several certificate trainings in Impact Assessments and Social Research works, he is passionate about designing M&E frameworks, implementing data-driven systems, research, data analytics, and leveraging digital tools for impactful project assessments.
Working closely with the Planning and Development Department and the Quality Assurance Directorate, Daniel is responsible for developing and managing the MEAL framework, maintaining a comprehensive Alumni and Scholars database, and overseeing evaluation and learning processes. Additionally, he will monitor program progress, foster learning, ensure reporting and be a safeguarding ambassador.

Besigiroha Kyokwijuka
Portfolio: Head MIS & Learning
Mr. Besigiroha is the Head, Management Information System and Learning responsible for knowledge management, which encompasses overseeing the programme's management information system to facilitate adaptive Programme management. This involves developing and managing the MIS and evaluating and learning from Programme activities and other engagements.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Quantitative Economics, a Master's degree in Population and Reproductive Health, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science (Information Systems), all from Makerere University. Additionally, he has obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management and a Master of Business Administration all from Uganda Management Institute (UMI). He has participated in several short-term certificate courses in project planning and management, research, public health, financial management, data analysis and report writing, information communications technology, monitoring, evaluation, and management at national and international levels.
With over 12 years of experience across multidisciplinary fields in both the public and private sectors, he's responsible for the development and management of the program Management Information System, evaluation and learning from program activities, data analysis and reporting.

Mr. Brian Buggah
Portfolio: Systems Administrator & IT Support Officer
Brian Buggah is the Systems Administrator & IT Support Officer at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University.
Brian holds a Master's of Science degree in Information systems from Lund University in Sweden and a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from Makerere University. Brian has over 15 years of experience in managing software and Information systems, managing IT projects, and implementing IT in large programs. Brian is passionate about cloud technology, software development, systems security, open source systems and IoT.
In his role as Systems Administrator & IT Support Officer, Brian works closely with the Directorate of ICT support (DICTS), Brian is responsible for ICT-enabled Program activities, managing the procurement and maintenance of all ICT based equipment/software/licenses of the Program and enabling the integration of Program Based Databases with the University systems where appropriate. He also works closely through the Program with the Dean of Students office to support the ICT function at the Makerere University Disability Support Center including provision of ICT related support for assistive devices and Technologies as well as harmonizing all IT based operations at the Center.

Sharon Nabukalu Mankaati
Portfolio: Principal Finance Officer
Sharon is the Principal Finance Officer for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. In this capacity, she assists the Program Director and Program Operations Lead in managing the Program’s finances in accordance with the Makerere University financial manual and the Foundation's financial regulation manuals. She plays a key role in financial planning, grants management, and operational efficiency to support the Program’s mission of empowering young leaders. Additionally, she is responsible for directly supervising and overseeing the daily operations of the Assistant Finance Officer. Sharon is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA).
Sharon has a strong track record in budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance, ensuring transparency and accountability in donor-funded initiatives. She is proficient in QuickBooks and Navision and is skilled in streamlining financial processes to enhance efficiency. Passionate about youth and women's empowerment, she drives financial strategies supporting education and leadership development.

Grace Namata Sennoga
Portfolio: Principal Support Services and Welfare Officer
Grace Namata is the Principal Support Services and Welfare Officer at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. She holds an MBA in International Business from Amity University, a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University and a Certificate in Leadership from the Aga Khan University Institute for Human Development.
In her portfolio, she ensures the well-being of Scholars and staff by coordinating housing schemes, managing medical insurance, organizing assemblies, monitoring Scholars' discipline, facilitating local and international travel, providing immigration support for international students, fostering partnerships and learning, and implementing a safeguarding framework at the Program level.
Grace is passionate about youth development, equity, inclusiveness, and creating opportunities for marginalized communities. She is deeply motivated by the success and progress of young people.

Bernard B. Buteera
Portfolio: Principal Communication and Public Relations Officer
Bernard is the Principal Communication and Public Relations Officer for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. He leads the development and execution of annual communication and public relations strategic plans. He also manages the dissemination of information to internal and external audiences, enhancing the Scholars Program reputation. He also leads the creation and development of engaging visual and written materials that inclusively explain and promote the visibility of the Scholars Program, fostering a positive public perception of the Program.
He holds an MSc in Development Management from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science, London-United Kingdom.

Carol Kasujja Adii
Portfolio: Senior Communication Officer
Carol Kasujja Adii, the Senior Communication Officer, is a highly skilled journalist and communications expert with over 18 years of experience, 15 of which have been in investigative roles. Kasujja holds a Master of Arts in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University, a postgraduate diploma in Investigative Journalism from the same institution, and a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Uganda Christian University.
She possesses expertise in communication, crisis management, and building relationships with key stakeholders. Before joining the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, Kasujja held several senior positions at the New Vision newspaper as an investigative writer and multimedia journalist. She is an award-winning journalist who epitomizes the true essence of journalism: truth, accuracy, and objectivity. In her previous roles, she covered significant local and international news events related to education, human rights, gender, and health.

Ayub is the Senior Transition Officer at the Mastercard Scholars Program at Makerere University, responsible for supporting Program scholars and Scholar Alumni in their transitions to employment and further education. He aims to achieve this by fostering strategic community engagement, empowering the alumni network, and building strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
Ayub holds an MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), a master's in social Sector Planning and Management, and a Bachelor of Arts from Makerere University. He is also a distinguished fellow of LSE’s Programme for African Leadership, underscoring his leadership capabilities and commitment to Africa’s development.
Ayub is passionate about development research, particularly cooperative development models that address Africa’s socio-economic challenges. He is dedicated to exploring solutions that promote inclusive and sustainable development, community empowerment, and economic independence.

Harriet Nakiryowa
Portfolio: Program Administrator
Harriet Nakiryowa is the Program Administrator for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. She holds a First-class Honours Bachelor's degree in Secretarial Studies from Makerere University and a Diploma in Secretarial Studies, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB)
Ms. Nakiryowa effectively manages all program operations. She executes various administrative tasks, including answering phone calls, organizing office files, and maintaining essential records. Her role encompasses scheduling and facilitating meetings, accurately recording and managing meeting minutes, handling all correspondence, and efficiently managing and updating calendars and the leave roster. Additionally, she ensures the procurement of meeting logistics, updates demographic and contact information in the ETO software, registers scholars at the beginning of each semester, and monitors and oversees the semester-based activity schedule for capacity-building programs.

Nabasumba Eva Mubiru
Portfolio: Principal Academics & Career Development Officer
Eva Nabasumba is the Principal Academics & Career Development Officer (Full-time) at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. Eva holds a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) in Public Administration from the University of Bergen-Norway, A bachelor's degree in arts and social sciences from Makerere University and a First-Class Diploma in Human Rights from the Law Development Centre-Kampala, Uganda.
Eva has experience in Programme/project management in different thematic areas, including human rights, child protection, capacity development, education and livelihood support, and general administration of psychosocial support services in non-governmental organizations and academia. Under the Fredskorpset Exchange Programme supported by the Norwegian government in 2010, Eva successfully established a Child Protection & Response Centre at the ANPPCAN Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya, in addition to spearheading the formation of the Nairobi Child Protection Team at the time Kenya was mapping her Child Protection System.

Mr. Robert Egwalu
Portfolio: Scholars Recruitment Officer
Robert Egwalu is the Scholars Recruitment Officer for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, where he is responsible for coordinating pre-enrolment engagements and recruitment of scholars into the program. His dream is to reach out to the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and deserving youth with information about the scholarship opportunity across Africa. He hopes to build strong networks and partnerships with key stakeholders to propel this agenda.
Robert holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Studies majoring in Human Rights, Gender and conflict studies from the Erasmus University - Netherlands, a Bachelor's degree in Adult and Community Education from Kyambogo University Kampala, a Diploma in Youth in Development work from Makerere University Kampala and he equally holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Project Planning & Management from Uganda Management Institute. Robert is refugee and forced migration expert, educationist, human rights advocate, humanitarian and development specialist. He has closely implemented education related projects for more than 13 years benefiting over 25,000 refugees, IDPs, returnees originating from The Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa.
He is passionate about empowering, mentoring, and building the capacities of the most vulnerable, marginalized and economically disadvantaged youths i.e. refugees, IDPs, PWDs, and minorities to live dignified lives. He is an advocate for a society of freedoms, fairness, equalities, and social justice for all.

Rose Mary Nalwanga
Portfolio: Principal Psychosocial Support Officer
Rose Mary Nalwanga is a seasoned Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience supporting individuals, especially students in higher educational institutions. With a career spanning over two decades, she is dedicated to promoting mental well-being and personal development, primarily among students, staff, and their families.
Rose Mary is well-versed in various counselling techniques, particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and has a strong background in assessing, observing, and delivering individual and group therapy. She is committed to creating a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment, ensuring clients feel empowered and understood.
Rose Mary has demonstrated leadership capabilities in various academic and administrative roles, such as acting as the Head of Career Guidance at Makerere University and managing psychosocial support services through several programs. She excels in needs assessment, crisis intervention, and organizing wellness programs that foster personal and professional growth. From time to time, she engages in psychosocial-related research.

Francis Ocaaki
Portfolio: Assistant Finance and Administration Officer
Francis is a 5th Cohort Scholar Alumnus of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. He has over two years of experience in internal auditing and finance and is currently advancing his expertise through the CPA program.
Francis began his professional career as an Internal Audit Assistant at Ugachick Poultry Breeders Limited, where he honed his skills in financial data analysis and automation of repetitive tasks using advanced Excel formulas and Power Pivot. His passion for accounting and finance drives his dedication to inspiring youth to become better versions of themselves using 21st century skills. As a Scholars Program Alumnus, Francis is honoured to be part of the program implementation team, enabling him to give back to his community and fellow scholars while upholding the program's core values. During his time as a student, he demonstrated strong leadership as the General Secretary of the Scholars Association and as a member of the Scholars Giveback Committee.
Francis's commitment to societal impact extends beyond his professional work. In 2022, he served as a focal person for Ebola virus risk communication in Buheesi Subcounty, Bunyangabu District, during the outbreak. He also volunteered as a blood donor recruiter with the Uganda Red Cross Society in Kabarole Branch. As a Resolution Project Fellow and Co-founder of Pearl Api Uganda, Francis empowers school-going students with beekeeping skills, enabling them to generate income for school fees.

Christopher Kaahwa
Portfolio: Program Associate
Christopher Kaahwa is a versatile, reliable, and results-oriented individual with a strong passion for communication. He strives to add value to organizations and communities through his personal and professional skills. With a background in journalism and communication, he excels in communication and brings a collaborative spirit to every task. He thrives in team environments and has a strong eagerness to learn, continuously seeking opportunities to develop new skills that contribute to both individual and collective success. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and creating sustainable solutions that drive social change and have a positive impact. As a co-founder of Mushroom Hill, a mushroom-growing venture aimed at empowering school-age children to stay in school and complete their primary education, he has witnessed firsthand the power of innovation as a catalyst for social change. In addition to his entrepreneurial efforts, he is deeply committed to giving back to the community and has actively participated in various projects to uplift those in need.

Joshua Akampurira
Portfolio: Program Associate
Joshua Akampurira is a BAC-IN Project Associate at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. He is a dedicated professional with a strong passion for leadership, community engagement, development, and youth empowerment. In his role, Joshua plays a crucial part in building meaningful connections between Scholars and Alumni. He collaborates with alumni leaders and other stakeholders to develop and implement the Alumni Engagement Strategy, ensuring that Alumni remain engaged and contribute to both the Scholars Program and the overall growth of the University.
In addition to his work in alumni engagement, Joshua coordinates workshops and training sessions under the BAC-IN project. He also supports research, monitoring, and evaluation efforts that help inform program improvements and facilitate institutional transformation..
Previously, he served as a Program Associate (General Duties) within the Scholars Program, where he gained valuable experience in supporting Scholars, coordinating programs, and engaging with stakeholders. His leadership journey began as a Guild Representative in the 87th Guild of Makerere University, where he actively advocated for student welfare and engagement.
Joshua holds a Bachelor's degree in Records Management from Makerere University. His commitment to leadership and community-driven development fuels his dedication to empowering young people and creating opportunities that promote social and institutional change.

Doreen Nyago
Portfolio: Program Associate
Doreen Nyago is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar alumna and Program Associate with the Scholars Program at Makerere University. She is a passionate and dedicated professional, holding a Bachelor's degree in Records and Archives Management from Makerere University and proudly identifying as a Mastercard Foundation Scholar Alumna.
In her current role as a Program Associate, Doreen plays a vital part in alumni engagement and the selection and recruitment processes of new scholars. She also coordinates pre-enrollment activities for prospective scholars. Additionally, she serves as a Cohort Coordinator at AlumNet Leadership, where she actively works to strengthen the alumni network, enhance engagement, and drive impactful initiatives within the alumni community.
As a Resolution Fellow and Mastercard Foundation FAST Fund Scholar, Doreen is deeply committed to community development and giveback initiatives. Her leadership in fundraising campaigns has significantly contributed to impactful projects. Brian holds a Master's of Science degree in Information systems from Lund University in Sweden and a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology from Makerere University. Brian has over 15 years of experience in managing software and Information systems, managing IT projects, and implementing IT in large programs. Brian is passionate about cloud technology, software development, systems security, open source systems and IoT.
In his role as Systems Administrator & IT Support Officer, Brian works closely with the Directorate of ICT support (DICTS), Brian is responsible for ICT-enabled Program activities, managing the procurement and maintenance of all ICT based equipment/software/licenses of the Program and enabling the integration of Program Based Databases with the University systems where appropriate. He also works closely through the Program with the Dean of Students office to support the ICT function at the Makerere University Disability Support Center including provision of ICT related support for assistive devices and Technologies as well as harmonizing all IT based operations at the Center.

Grace Namata Sennoga
Portfolio: Principal Support Services and Welfare Officer
Grace Namata is the Principal Support Services and Welfare Officer at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. She holds an MBA in International Business from Amity University, a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University and a Certificate in Leadership from the Aga Khan University Institute for Human Development.
In her portfolio, she ensures the well-being of Scholars and staff by coordinating housing schemes, managing medical insurance, organizing assemblies, monitoring Scholars' discipline, facilitating local and international travel, providing immigration support for international students, fostering partnerships and learning, and implementing a safeguarding framework at the Program level.
Grace is passionate about youth development, equity, inclusiveness, and creating opportunities for marginalized communities. She is deeply motivated by the success and progress of young people.

Bernard B. Buteera
Portfolio: Principal Communication and Public Relations Officer
Bernard is the Principal Communication and Public Relations Officer for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. He leads the development and execution of annual communication and public relations strategic plans. He also manages the dissemination of information to internal and external audiences, enhancing the Scholars Program reputation. He also leads the creation and development of engaging visual and written materials that inclusively explain and promote the visibility of the Scholars Program, fostering a positive public perception of the Program.
He holds an MSc in Development Management from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science, London-United Kingdom.

Carol Kasujja Adii
Portfolio: Senior Communication Officer
Carol Kasujja Adii, the Senior Communication Officer, is a highly skilled journalist and communications expert with over 18 years of experience, 15 of which have been in investigative roles. Kasujja holds a Master of Arts in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University, a postgraduate diploma in Investigative Journalism from the same institution, and a bachelor's degree in mass communication from Uganda Christian University.
She possesses expertise in communication, crisis management, and building relationships with key stakeholders. Before joining the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, Kasujja held several senior positions at the New Vision newspaper as an investigative writer and multimedia journalist. She is an award-winning journalist who epitomizes the true essence of journalism: truth, accuracy, and objectivity. In her previous roles, she covered significant local and international news events related to education, human rights, gender, and health.

Ayub is the Senior Transition Officer at the Mastercard Scholars Program at Makerere University, responsible for supporting Program scholars and Scholar Alumni in their transitions to employment and further education. He aims to achieve this by fostering strategic community engagement, empowering the alumni network, and building strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
Ayub holds an MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), a master's in social Sector Planning and Management, and a Bachelor of Arts from Makerere University. He is also a distinguished fellow of LSE's Programme for African Leadership, underscoring his leadership capabilities and commitment to Africa's development.
Ayub is passionate about development research, particularly cooperative development models that address Africa's socio-economic challenges. He is dedicated to exploring solutions that promote inclusive and sustainable development, community empowerment, and economic independence.

Harriet Nakiryowa
Portfolio: Program Administrator
Harriet Nakiryowa is the Program Administrator for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. She holds a First-class Honours Bachelor's degree in Secretarial Studies from Makerere University and a Diploma in Secretarial Studies, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB)
Ms. Nakiryowa effectively manages all program operations. She executes various administrative tasks, including answering phone calls, organizing office files, and maintaining essential records. Her role encompasses scheduling and facilitating meetings, accurately recording and managing meeting minutes, handling all correspondence, and efficiently managing and updating calendars and the leave roster. Additionally, she ensures the procurement of meeting logistics, updates demographic and contact information in the ETO software, registers scholars at the beginning of each semester, and monitors and oversees the semester-based activity schedule for capacity-building programs.

Nabasumba Eva Mubiru
Portfolio: Principal Academics & Career Development Officer
Eva Nabasumba is the Principal Academics & Career Development Officer (Full-time) at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. Eva holds a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) in Public Administration from the University of Bergen-Norway, A bachelor's degree in arts and social sciences from Makerere University and a First-Class Diploma in Human Rights from the Law Development Centre-Kampala, Uganda.
Eva has experience in Programme/project management in different thematic areas, including human rights, child protection, capacity development, education and livelihood support, and general administration of psychosocial support services in non-governmental organizations and academia. Under the Fredskorpset Exchange Programme supported by the Norwegian government in 2010, Eva successfully established a Child Protection & Response Centre at the ANPPCAN Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya, in addition to spearheading the formation of the Nairobi Child Protection Team at the time Kenya was mapping her Child Protection System.

Mr. Robert Egwalu
Portfolio: Scholars Recruitment Officer
Robert Egwalu is the Scholars Recruitment Officer for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, where he is responsible for coordinating pre-enrolment engagements and recruitment of scholars into the program. His dream is to reach out to the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and deserving youth with information about the scholarship opportunity across Africa. He hopes to build strong networks and partnerships with key stakeholders to propel this agenda.
Robert holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Studies majoring in Human Rights, Gender and conflict studies from the Erasmus University - Netherlands, a Bachelor's degree in Adult and Community Education from Kyambogo University Kampala, a Diploma in Youth in Development work from Makerere University Kampala and he equally holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Project Planning & Management from Uganda Management Institute. Robert is refugee and forced migration expert, educationist, human rights advocate, humanitarian and development specialist. He has closely implemented education related projects for more than 13 years benefiting over 25,000 refugees, IDPs, returnees originating from The Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa.
He is passionate about empowering, mentoring, and building the capacities of the most vulnerable, marginalized and economically disadvantaged youths i.e. refugees, IDPs, PWDs, and minorities to live dignified lives. He is an advocate for a society of freedoms, fairness, equalities, and social justice for all.

Rose Mary Nalwanga
Portfolio: Principal Psychosocial Support Officer
Rose Mary Nalwanga is a seasoned Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience supporting individuals, especially students in higher educational institutions. With a career spanning over two decades, she is dedicated to promoting mental well-being and personal development, primarily among students, staff, and their families.
Rose Mary is well-versed in various counselling techniques, particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and has a strong background in assessing, observing, and delivering individual and group therapy. She is committed to creating a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment, ensuring clients feel empowered and understood.
Rose Mary has demonstrated leadership capabilities in various academic and administrative roles, such as acting as the Head of Career Guidance at Makerere University and managing psychosocial support services through several programs. She excels in needs assessment, crisis intervention, and organizing wellness programs that foster personal and professional growth. From time to time, she engages in psychosocial-related research.

Francis Ocaaki
Portfolio: Assistant Finance and Administration Officer
Francis is a 5th Cohort Scholar Alumnus of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. He has over two years of experience in internal auditing and finance and is currently advancing his expertise through the CPA program.
Francis began his professional career as an Internal Audit Assistant at Ugachick Poultry Breeders Limited, where he honed his skills in financial data analysis and automation of repetitive tasks using advanced Excel formulas and Power Pivot. His passion for accounting and finance drives his dedication to inspiring youth to become better versions of themselves using 21st century skills. As a Scholars Program Alumnus, Francis is honoured to be part of the program implementation team, enabling him to give back to his community and fellow scholars while upholding the program's core values. During his time as a student, he demonstrated strong leadership as the General Secretary of the Scholars Association and as a member of the Scholars Giveback Committee.
Francis's commitment to societal impact extends beyond his professional work. In 2022, he served as a focal person for Ebola virus risk communication in Buheesi Subcounty, Bunyangabu District, during the outbreak. He also volunteered as a blood donor recruiter with the Uganda Red Cross Society in Kabarole Branch. As a Resolution Project Fellow and Co-founder of Pearl Api Uganda, Francis empowers school-going students with beekeeping skills, enabling them to generate income for school fees.

Christopher Kaahwa

Christopher Kaahwa is a versatile, reliable, and results-oriented individual with a strong passion for communication. He strives to add value to organizations and communities through his personal and professional skills. With a background in journalism and communication, he excels in communication and brings a collaborative spirit to every task. He thrives in team environments and has a strong eagerness to learn, continuously seeking opportunities to develop new skills that contribute to both individual and collective success. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and creating sustainable solutions that drive social change and have a positive impact. As a co-founder of Mushroom Hill, a mushroom-growing venture aimed at empowering school-age children to stay in school and complete their primary education, he has witnessed firsthand the power of innovation as a catalyst for social change. In addition to his entrepreneurial efforts, he is deeply committed to giving back to the community and has actively participated in various projects to uplift those in need.

Joshua Akampurira
Portfolio: Program Associate
Joshua Akampurira is a BAC-IN Project Associate at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University. He is a dedicated professional with a strong passion for leadership, community engagement, development, and youth empowerment. In his role, Joshua plays a crucial part in building meaningful connections between Scholars and Alumni. He collaborates with alumni leaders and other stakeholders to develop and implement the Alumni Engagement Strategy, ensuring that Alumni remain engaged and contribute to both the Scholars Program and the overall growth of the University.
In addition to his work in alumni engagement, Joshua coordinates workshops and training sessions under the BAC-IN project. He also supports research, monitoring, and evaluation efforts that help inform program improvements and facilitate institutional transformation..
Previously, he served as a Program Associate (General Duties) within the Scholars Program, where he gained valuable experience in supporting Scholars, coordinating programs, and engaging with stakeholders. His leadership journey began as a Guild Representative in the 87th Guild of Makerere University, where he actively advocated for student welfare and engagement.

Doreen Nyago

Doreen Nyago is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar alumna and Program Associate with the Scholars Program at Makerere University. She is a passionate and dedicated professional, holding a Bachelor's degree in Records and Archives Management from Makerere University and proudly identifying as a Mastercard Foundation Scholar Alumna.
In her current role as a Program Associate, Doreen plays a vital part in alumni engagement and the selection and recruitment processes of new scholars. She also coordinates pre-enrollment activities for prospective scholars. Additionally, she serves as a Cohort Coordinator at AlumNet Leadership, where she actively works to strengthen the alumni network, enhance engagement, and drive impactful initiatives within the alumni community.
